Your install checklist
- Check your phone is eSIM-capable and carrier-unlocked. Most phones from about 2019 on support eSIM; if in doubt, see our compatibility page.
- Have your Goodbars order email open: it carries both the QR code and the manual details (an SM-DP+ address and an activation code).
- Connect to Wi-Fi. Downloading the eSIM profile needs an internet connection, so do this before you rely on it for data.
- Open your phone's Add-eSIM screen.On iPhone: Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data) > Add eSIM (recent iOS).
- Scan the QR from your order email. If it will not scan, choose 'Enter details manually' and paste the SM-DP+ address and activation code.
- Give the new line a clear label like 'Goodbars' so you can tell it apart from your home number.
- You can install now and leave the Goodbars line's data switched OFF until you land. Installing early is fine; you only need it active on arrival.
- Keep your home SIM for calls and texts, but turn its data roaming OFF so it never quietly runs up a roaming bill.
- That is it: you are ready to fly. On landing, switch the Goodbars line on and follow the 'just landed' steps.

Common questions
How do I install an eSIM for Bali?
Connect to Wi-Fi, open your phone's Add-eSIM screen (Settings > Cellular/Mobile data on iPhone, Settings > Connections > SIM manager on Samsung), scan the QR from your order email or enter the details manually, label the line, and set it as your data line with roaming on once you arrive.
Should I install my eSIM before or after I fly?
Either works. Installing at home on Wi-Fi is calmer and means one less thing on arrival; just leave the line's data off until you land. If you wait, you can install on arrival as long as you have Wi-Fi or another connection to download the profile.
Why does my eSIM need data roaming turned on?
A travel eSIM runs on a local partner network (Telkomsel in Bali) rather than your home carrier, so your phone treats it as roaming. Turning Data Roaming ON for the travel line is normal and required; turn it OFF on your home line to avoid home-carrier charges.
Do I need Wi-Fi to install an eSIM?
You need an internet connection to download the eSIM profile, so Wi-Fi is the easiest way. Once the profile is installed it works on the mobile network without Wi-Fi; you only need internet for that first download.
What if the QR code will not scan?
Use the manual path: on the Add-eSIM screen choose 'Enter details manually' and paste the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your order email. The QR and the manual details are two ways into the same install.
Can I use my normal number at the same time?
Yes, on a dual-SIM phone. Keep your home SIM or eSIM for calls and texts, set the Goodbars line as your data line, and turn data roaming off on the home line. See our guide on using an eSIM and home SIM together.
