Can I install my eSIM before I arrive in Japan?
Yes, and you should. Install it at home on Wi-Fi; the validity period only starts counting once your phone connects to a network in Japan.
Do I need a visa for Japan?
Not with an EU passport, for up to 90 days. There is no mandatory arrival form; Visit Japan Web is the government's free, optional pre-registration that turns immigration and customs into one QR code, and it is worth the ten minutes.
Which network does the Goodbars Japan eSIM use?
It uses NTT docomo, the country's largest mobile network by subscriptions. Our coverage page shows what NTT docomo and independent sources publish about its coverage, with a source for every figure.
Does it work outside Tokyo?
That is the point of it: one eSIM for the whole trip, Tokyo to Kyoto to Osaka and the train between. What exactly the plan covers is stated on the plan itself.
Why can't I connect to the internet?
Make sure the Goodbars eSIM is switched on, that data roaming is enabled for it, and that it is selected as your mobile data line. If it still does not connect, restart the phone and write to us; we answer fast.
Is the Goodbars eSIM data-only?
Yes, it is data-only and does not carry regular calls or SMS. Calls run over WhatsApp, FaceTime, Zoom or any other app, which is how most people call from Japan anyway.
Do I need a local ID?
No. Buy it online from anywhere. The SIM counters at Narita and Haneda ask for a passport for every card they sell; an eSIM installed at home never asks for it.
Can I use this together with my regular SIM?
Yes. Most phones support dual SIM: keep your physical SIM for calls and texts and use the Goodbars eSIM for mobile data, both at the same time.
Which devices work with Goodbars eSIM?
Most modern smartphones support eSIM, including iPhone XS and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, and Google Pixel 3 and newer. Check your device settings or manual to confirm eSIM support.
Can I combine Japan and Bali on one trip?
