Bring a bank card that works internationally and check its foreign-transaction fees; you will still need some rupiah for warungs and small shops.

WhatsApp is widely used in Bali by hotels, drivers and tours, so make sure it is installed and working.

The essentials are a ride-hailing app (Grab or Gojek), Google Maps with an offline map downloaded, WhatsApp (widely used by hotels and drivers), and your eSIM or connectivity sorted so those apps work the moment you land.
What should I sort before travelling to Bali?
Sort your eSIM or connectivity, install Grab/Gojek and WhatsApp, download an offline map, check your passport (6 months validity) and visa, plan your cash and tell your bank, arrange your airport transfer, and sort travel insurance.
Do I need Grab or Gojek in Bali?
They are the easiest way to get affordable rides and food delivery, and both need data, so having your eSIM ready means you can order a ride as soon as you land. Some areas restrict pickups, so a fallback like a metered Bluebird taxi helps.
Do I need to pay a tourist tax for Bali?
Yes, there is a one-time Bali tourist levy (IDR 150,000 per person), payable on the official Love Bali portal before or on arrival. Keep the payment confirmation.
Will my phone work in Bali?
If your phone is unlocked and supports eSIM (most from about 2019 on), a travel eSIM gets you online without swapping your physical SIM. Set the travel line as your data line with roaming on, and keep your home line for calls.
How much data do I need for Bali?
