Common questions
Does Bali have 5G?
Yes, in parts. Telkomsel 5G is live in Denpasar, Kuta, Nusa Dua and Canggu. Most of the rest of Bali, including Ubud, Seminyak, Uluwatu and Nusa Penida, runs on 4G/LTE, which is fast enough for everything most travellers do.
Is 4G fast enough in Indonesia?
For almost everything, yes. Telkomsel's 4G/LTE handles maps, messaging, social media, streaming and video calls comfortably. Most travellers spend an entire trip on 4G without hitting a limitation.
Will my eSIM switch between 5G and 4G automatically?
Yes. Your phone connects to the fastest network available where you are and moves between 5G and 4G on its own. There is no setting to change and nothing to do manually.
Is there internet on Nusa Penida and the Gili Islands?
Yes, on 4G, though coverage is thinner than on mainland Bali. Expect a usable signal around the main villages, harbours and resort areas, and patchier stretches on rough roads and remote corners of the islands.
Why is my connection slow in Canggu or Kuta?
Usually congestion rather than missing coverage: busy tourist areas put a lot of people on the same towers at peak times. Moving a short distance, or waiting out the peak, often helps more than switching networks.
Can I work remotely on Indonesian mobile internet?
Many people do, especially in the Bali hubs. The honest advice is to treat any single connection as fallible: keep a backup way online, and remember that power cuts affect Wi-Fi in a way a mobile connection is not immune to either.
