The short answer
On an eSIM-capable Galaxy, the install takes two to five minutes: open Settings > Connections > SIM manager, tap Add eSIM, then Scan QR code, and scan the code from your confirmation email. Do it on home Wi-Fi before you fly, because installing changes nothing yet: the plan sits dormant, and your 30 days only start once the eSIM first connects to Telkomsel in Indonesia. Which Galaxy phones support eSIM
Every Galaxy S flagship from the S20 onwards, every Z Flip and Z Fold, and the recent FE models support eSIM, but the rest of the range is patchy. Two honest caveats: some US carrier models shipped with eSIM missing or disabled, and most Galaxy A series phones have no eSIM at all; as of July 2026 only a handful, such as the A54, A55 and A56 in Europe, carry it. The QR email and One UI's shifting menus
Your QR code arrives by email right after purchase, and on most Galaxys the path is Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Add eSIM > Scan QR code. One UI's menu names have never sat still: older versions say SIM card manager, and some show Add mobile plan instead of Add eSIM. If yours looks different, type SIM manager into the search bar at the top of Settings. You need Wi-Fi during the install, and the phone cannot scan a code on its own screen, so show it on a laptop, a second phone, or paper. Expect a short registration wait after the scan.
The two landing-day settings
When you land, open SIM manager and do two things: set the eSIM as your mobile data SIM, and turn data roaming on for it. Roaming sounds like a bill risk, but it is simply how a travel eSIM reaches Telkomsel, and it cannot generate home charges because data only flows through the SIM you selected for mobile data. Your home SIM stays on for calls and texts: the Goodbars plan is data-only, so your usual number keeps working beside it.
How dual SIM behaves on a Galaxy
Both lines stay active at once: calls and texts ring through on your home number while data runs through the travel eSIM. One thing to watch: after a restart or a software update, One UI can quietly flip mobile data back to your home SIM. If your Bali data suddenly stops mid-trip, check SIM manager before anything else. You can also rename lines there, so label the eSIM Travel and it stays easy to spot in every menu.
Verify before you fly
A one-minute check at home saves airport stress. The day before departure, confirm:
- The eSIM is listed in SIM manager with its own entry.
- You know where the mobile data selector is, so switching SIMs on landing takes seconds.
- You have found the data roaming toggle for the eSIM line.
- The QR email is saved offline, in case you need the order details later.
